A SHORT ORIGIN STORY
The wall Craftiva was built to remove
Craftiva began in Slovenia in 2019, after founder Mojca returned to the hands-on work she had always loved, from painting and photography to sewing and leatherwork.
Then she discovered that Tandy Leather had produced leatherworking kits years earlier. She tracked down an old handbag kit and ordered it. She loved the idea immediately. But when she opened the box, her first thought was:
“If I didn’t already know some of this, I wouldn’t know where to start.”
The materials were there. The possibility was there. But the path to a finished handbag depended on knowledge a first-time maker simply would not have.
Mojca spent roughly three months developing and testing the version she wished she had received. Friends tried the early kits. Instructions were rewritten. Steps were changed. The goal was not to remove the satisfying work. It was to remove the avoidable confusion that could stop a beginner before the first stitch.
The first kits were sold in Slovenia under the name DIY Handbag Kit. One batch and one design at a time, Craftiva grew into a small team with its own designer, workshop, storage and two material collections.
The brand grew, but the original question never changed: How can making your first handbag feel possible before you have any reason to feel confident?
